In Between Horizons - Solo Show

March 7 - June 7, 2026

“In the context of spring, renewal, and collective reflection, ankydyn gallery artist Shushanik Karapetyan invites us to linger in moments that resist closure, proposing the in-between not as a temporary condition to be resolved, but as a space of presence, potential, and shared experience. Opening at Aubergine Cafe in Queens on March 7th, the artist’s second solo in her home neighborhood will feature abstract, color-driven paintings of portals, landscapes, embryonic and vessel-like forms.”

Sprouting and Rerouting

March 11 - 26, 2026

“Sprouting & Rerouting frames transformation as an ongoing condition: a continual negotiation in which new possibilities arise by bending, reconfiguring, and finding alternate ways forward. It draws on neuroplasticity (the brain’s ability to adapt by forming new connections and redirecting existing pathways) as both a conceptual framework and a metaphor for artistic process. The artists in the show engage parallel processes through form, gesture, material and subject. Across sculpture, drawing, painting and photography, growth appears as intuitive, responsive, and non-linear. Rather than presenting change as a resolved outcome, the works here emphasize process: emergence shaped by pressure, interruption, and adjustment.”

Becoming a Mother - Solo Show

This community-centered art exhibition explores women’s health, pregnancy, and motherhood through a combination of semi-abstract paintings and intimate, anonymous interviews. Inspired by the artist’s personal journey into motherhood, the collection is divided into three parts: the Menstrual Cycle, Pregnancy, and Motherhood. The exhibition will present these works alongside interview responses from a diverse group of women—including mothers, mothers-to-be, and women who don't have children—highlighting their shared and unique experiences. These interviews aim to spark dialogue and broaden public understanding of women’s experiences and needs.

LAND SEA SKY - Solo Show

January 11 - February 22, 2025

"Land Sea Sky" is a collection of paintings with organic motifs. These paintings grew out of the simple exercise of exploring the different marks a brush can make. Following my curiosity, I noticed that at some point, I was using the filbert brush and making repetitive similar strokes that looked like a school of fish or petals. This experience ultimately evolved into the paintings in this collection, some of which are more structured than others, all of them using some iteration of a repetitive brush stroke that feels meditative in the moment. The choice of colors is sometimes premeditated but more often is made in the moment as I work on a painting. As I paint in this style, I often feel calm and immersed in a flow of colors. Through these works, I invite viewers to find their own sense of calm and connection to nature’s patterns. The interplay of shapes and colors is meant to evoke a meditative experience, encouraging personal reflection.

Besides being an opening to new places, portals can also serve as openings to new experiences and sensations. Maryland Federation of Art (MFA) asks artists to share their interpretations of portals – whether literal or metaphorical, and to share their artistic perspectives and representations of the concept of portals as they see it. “

Works on Paper - BWAC National Juried Art Show

June 1 – June 23, 2024

Juried by Charlotta Kotik

“For many, the freedom and immediacy afforded by working on paper is instrumental to their practices, spawning new techniques and aesthetics, subjects and methods. Works On Paper encompasses a diverse range of media — from drawing, printmaking, painting, collage, and beyond. Far from being confined to studies and experiments, works on paper represent important modes of art-making in their own right.”

Realism vs. The Abstract Show - BWAC National Juried Art Show

April 13 – May 12, 2024

Juried by Armando Jaramillo Garcia and Curated by Fortunata Schiano

“Color, forms, shapes, subject matter are all concepts used by artists to express themselves: through REALISM—art which aims to reproduce reality and THE ABSTRACT: art which can convert those same concepts into patterns of color, forms, and shapes. In this exhibition we will attempt, by way of their formal arrangements, to draw associations between them.”
